This is for my sisters, my friends, my supporters and the numerous women out there that have reached out to me since I started writing my blog. I stepped away for a minute and had to focus on some other priorities momentarily but I am prepared to commit my time to writing as often as possible. I will continue to share my tips and tricks as well as my ideas of what works and what doesn't.... or at least, what worked and what didn't for me!
One thing that I do want to mention is that, as women, we put so much pressure on ourselves to do things... really, everything, to try to make everyone in our lives happy. We cook, clean, do laundry, take care of the kids, work, pay bills, grocery shop, always maintain the calendar of appointments, take the kids to the doctor, pick them up from school, etc. There is a never-ending list of demands that seem to come second nature to us. We don't argue or complain about these tasks and do them, without batting an eye, daily.
At the end of the day, you may lay down with about five minutes to spare before you fall fast asleep, exhausted and trying to get your rest in for the next busy day that you have ahead of you. It is rare that we find time to take a moment for ourselves, let alone taking an hour a day or a couple days a week to workout and really, honestly focus on ourselves. We are not doing ourselves any favors by not taking time to care for ourselves.
Eating healthy and exercising are not luxuries, they are necessities.
A healthy diet and daily exercise will help lengthen your life span and is connected with alleviating issues regarding health problems like disease, ailments and degenerative illness. Healthy eating will provide you with enough energy to perform your daily tasks and make you more productive, more focused.
Daily exercise will help you burn your daily calorie intake and allow you to release the toxins stored in your body. Regular cardio exercise can strenghten your heart and bring more oxygen to your lungs. Exercise can do everything from treat depression, improve memory and cure a host of problems while preventing even more. Exercise leads to the release of endorphins that resemble opiates in their ability to produce the feeling of well being.
Make time for you. Plan your dinners at least three days a week to be cooked in the crock pot so it's ready when you walk through the door, do your grocery shopping on Sunday so you have everything you need all week long, plan to workout Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday or make a schedule that works for you. Stay active with your family by taking walks after dinner, take them to the gym with you and let them play in the playroom if they are too young to workout, let them workout with you if they are old enough.
Don't have time to actually get in the gym? It's okay, get bands or an exercise ball for use at home. Walk the stairs in your house. Go for a run around the neighborhood or ride a bike for a couple of miles. Do plyometric exercises that don't cost anything: http://www.sport-fitness-advisor.com/plyometricexercises.html
Don't lose yourself in trying to take care of everyone and everything else! Take time for yourself. Take care of yourself. Workout, eat healthy and be a positive, outstanding role model for your children, your family, your friends and your spouse! Taking time to tend to your needs doesn't make you selfish, it makes you smart!
